I never had true paella before so this was my first official time. I’ve made a similar “thing” before after watching an episode of Jamie Oliver making paella with seafood. Mine didn’t turn out so good, some of the rice was still uncooked in the inside. My friend knew a mom and pop restaurant that served good paella but we found out it was closed! Boo!! So she found Meson Sevilla in Times Square. I have very low expectations of restaurants in Times Square. Why? COME ON!!! IT’S IN TIMES SQUARE!!!!! But Meson Sevilla was more on the outskirts of Times Square so it was just slightly above alright.
I decided to walk even though it was a terrible walk. Everyone was going the opposite way to Penn Station I think, I felt like I was a salmon swimming upstream. When I got there my friend was already there. We knew we were going to get a paella and a pitcher of sangria so we ordered 2 more dishes from the tapas menu. Here’s what we got….
Artichoke and bacon and Spanish potato omeletteThey do have a pretty good list of tapas my friend got the artichoke and bacon and I got the Spanish potato omelette. I think my friend loves bacon because it’s the same friend that ordered the bacon salad from Hagi last time..hm……
Anyways, when the 2 tapas came we were both amazed how wonderfully the 2 dishes worked so well TOGETHER! The artichoke and bacon was beautifully sauted and the potato omelette hearty and crumbly. Hhmmmm I love potatoes. Then the main course came Paella Valenciana clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, chicken, spinach, and sausage in saffron rice. Like I said before this was my first time having paella so I have nothing to compare to. It was a pretty good first paella but my friend said it was only alright. I’m guessing our paella mission will continue……….
