So remember a few weeks ago when I wrote about a new Turkish restaurant coming to Park Slope? It opened a couple of weeks ago. Above you see the cold mixed appetizer plate ($8.50) — that’s the medium size (they offer only medium and large). It’s easily enough food for two people (I managed to put away 2/3 of it, and then the waiter asked me if I wanted to order an entree), and it’s served with a basket of warm bread. The hummus and babaganoush tasted generic, but the tabouli was fantastic and fresh tasting. Another highlight: the stuffed grape leaves, slightly sweet with raisins mixed into the rice. Also eaten (on other visits) but not pictured are the “fried” phyllo rolls stuffed with cheese, not crispy enough but with a wonderful lemon flavor. The felafel wrap ($7) was not as successful; it took almost 10 minutes to prepare, and although I asked for “no tomatoes” I got plenty of tomatoes in the wrap. The felafel themselves were highly spiced but under seasoned. Still, during a busy lunch service with my back to the open windows and the sun bearing down on me, I did experience a reminder of what it felt like when eating in one of Turkey’s open air cafes.

One of the best parts of the annual 7th Heaven Street Fair, held on Father’s Day Sunday and stretching all the way from Flatbush to 16th Street on 7th Ave, is that among all of the usual sausage & peppers and funnel cake trucks there are lots of local (and not so local) restaurants that come out to showcase their foods. Here’s a quick look at some of them.

Over the weekend a new sign appeared over the former NoNO Kitchen space — Istanbul Turkish Cuisine. No date is listed, nor is their any indication of whether it will be authentic Turkish food or an Americanized version. Looking forward to finding out.

There’s a great little bar in park slope where they blast metal, play horror movies all day, and occasionally have girls dancing on the bar. Lucky 13 is one of my favorite bars in the ares, and according to this story over at Fucked in Park Slope (sent to us by our friend Matt) they are in serious financial trouble. They’re having a benefit this Saturday, June 6th, at ten o’clock. Come on out and help save the bar! Lucky 13 is located on 13th St at 5th Ave in Brooklyn.

It’s been a while since I’ve been back to Dizzy. Last time I went they served strawberry butter along with their tiny biscuits. So I was glad that they kept the strawberry butter since I told Howard and Chris as we were sitting down.

Okay, well I wanted to start off with an introduction or something but I couldn’t think of anything. It’s been over an hour and the page is still blank so I’ll just go straight into the food. I didn’t do any research on this place at all so I wasn’t really expecting anything. Just heard a few things from there or there. My friends and I took the seats at the bar because we didn’t want to wait. The waitress told us the brunch specials and we looked at the menu. Both my friend and Howard got the brunch special, frittata with crispy potatoes and Turkish cheese. The only comment I heard about the frittata was that the crispy potatoes weren’t so crispy. You’ll have to wait till Howard put up his post to find out what he REALLY thinks of it. I ordered the Pork Butt Hash & Scrambled Eggs served with biscuits off the regular brunch menu. I guess I got spoiled by Bubby’s when I saw pork butt hash. Bubby’s pork belly hash was more the home fries style kind while Little D Eatery’s pork butt hash was more the hashbrown type. I was definitely a little disappointed at that. I couldn’t see nor taste any pork! BUT, the pork butt hash was nicely cooked and crispy AND the biscuits were awesome and so were the scrambled eggs, juussst barely still runny and I think there were too many ands in this sentence.
Little D Eatery is a good little spot for brunch with great services and a garden but the decor doesn’t really establish any sort of personality. It kind of reminded me of Stone Park Cafe or Chestnut or Apt 138 or you know. Anyways, I definitely want to go back to try their dinner menu.
