There seems to be more hate (Yelp, Eater) for the newly opened Brooklyn Crab in Red Hook than love. While I think the idea is great, I’m quite sad that it is in Red Hook. I see Red Hook as the ball field food vendors, the more intimate restaurants like Kevin’s and the elusive Philly Pinoy. To many, Red Hook is like going on a trip but for me it’s just a quick 30min walk. Okay, I actually don’t mind Ikea being there (sorry..trips to the Port Authority and then taking the Ikea shuttle is not quite fun).
After couple weeks of being opened and many have shared their thoughts, 9 of us decided to take our chances at the Brooklyn Crab.

Howard: When Donny invited me to dinner at Mary Queen of Scots with our friends Mo and Etta, he mentioned that there was not a lot of vegetarian food on the menu. I was intrigued by what vegetarian food I did see, however, so I agreed to go. The two vegetarian options I wanted were both salads, though one was listed as an appetizer and the other a main, so I was able to order both. I also ordered a side of “Fried Boozy Brussels Sprouts” for the table.

I love fish and chips and yes I have been to both Chip Shops in Brooklyn. Fish and chips is something that I get whenever I see it on a menu, though of course depending on where I am. I’m not going to order fish and chips at a burger joint but I will order fish and chips at an Irish Pub. Anyways, so last week I found myself having lunch with a friend at Lobster Joint, conveniently close to Eastern District in Greenpoint. So how was the food? I love me some slow braised pork shank….
I’m still in search of a good reliable dim sum place in LA. You would think having so many Chinese places it would be easy to find a place with good dim sum. Maybe I’m picky, okay I’m picky. How I tell if a place is good by ordering the rice rolls (cheung fun) because that’s mostly a thin sheet of rice noodle. If the rice rolls has a good balance of thickness and thinness (does that make sense?) then the restaurant is good. Anyways, so before flying home I did a little research if there are any new or good dim sum restaurants since I was last in LA. Read few food blogs and there seems to be a new dim sum player in town, took over another Chinese restaurant that I actually had dinner once last year. This new place is called Elite and seems like every food blog I read gave it a plus. I was excited and I brought along the one person I trust will give me an honest and good feedback, my mom!! So after dropping off my niece at pre-school, we drove out to Monterey Park. Review after the jump…
