Ultimate Burgers & DogsUltimate Burgers & Dogs
When you name your place with the word “Ultimate” there’s a certain level of “ultimateness” you gotta live up to. You can’t call yourself ultimate and not be ultimate. The things listed on the menu looked promising but reviews of the place didn’t.

Short version. DON’T GO THERE!

Cincinnati Night
I have seen photos of how the citizens of Cincinnati eat their chili. I have seen it on the Anthony Bourdain show and I have had friends described it to me when they went to Cincinnati for a long weekend but it wasn’t until last Monday that I finally came face-to-face with it.

Every last Monday of each month, Edward’s in Tribeca does a Cincinnati Night where you’ll get to eat some of the popular Cincinnati food items. Of course the one thing everybody goes for is chili from Skyline Chili. Chili from Cincinnati isn’t as thick as regular chili and they add cocoa powder into it to give it a bit of sweetness. Besides Skyline you can also get ribs from Montgomery Inn, pizza from Larosa and ice cream from Graeter’s.

Dijon chicken
Shortly after the Schnitzel & Things truck rolled out there was word on Serious Eats that there would be a Moroccan food truck coming out soon. I was excited because there needs to be more savory non-taco trucks around. I quickly emailed Steph because she loves lamb. Finally one day, last week, Bistro Truck tweeted that they were going to have a soft opening with free food but with a limited menu. I figured there would be a long line so I decided not to go. Then yesterday on Twitter Steph said she was planning to try the truck. She’s lucky because she works right across from the truck. So today we met up at the truck for lunch.

Food lines
Oh lobster lobster roll. What a dear dear friend you are.
Okay so I’m a little embarrassed to say that I’m a lobster roll newbie. Never had one before. I do love lobster. My family always gets it at those Chinese banquet family style restaurants. They would cook it in this super rich broth with ginger and scallions. Once in a while I would randomly think about a lobster roll and that would be it. BUT then one day I found out that Red Hook Lobster Pound was going to serve their lobster rolls at the Brooklyn Flea, yay! What was also nice was that they, the Brooklyn Flea, had moved out into the open right under the Brooklyn bridge instead of being inside a building. You know, just not very flea market like. Anyways I kept wanting to go every Sunday but laziness kept winning. Finally I got Mo to go with me, surprisingly with very little persuasion, and we walked from our apt down to DUMBO. By the time we got it was already close to 2pm and the flea opened at noon. I was expecting a super long line but when we got there there wasn’t. Maybe 6 people long. As we were standing in line we noticed Pizza Moto, the mobile wood-fired brick oven pizzeria was there also! Sweet.

I have heard so many things about Artichoke Pizza on 14th Street. Good ones and bad ones. Why this place is popular is because people keep comparing them to Di Fara. It’s been such a looooong time since I had Di Fara so I can’t comment on the similarities. Anyways, after few hours at the good ole Otto’s Shrunken Head with coworkers, Matt and I wanted something to eat. Thankfully he was up for Artichoke and so we found ourselves standing under the rain in line at Artichoke around midnight. The place was still packed, packed with kids out drinking. I decided to get the margarita, Sicilian and artichoke & spinach. Don’t know when I’ll go back so why not just try all of them.
Well, the margarita slice was just okay, nothing too special. The Sicilian was just okay as well. Half of the crust on the bottom was burnt to pure black. Oh but the aritchoke & spinach slice. WOW! Ed Levine said on Slice that the artichoke & spinach tasted like a dip. I would describe it as a can of Campbell cream of artichoke soup baked on top of the pizza. But no matter how gross that sound Matt and I thought it was GOOOOOOOD. It was green and creamy and cheesy. If only they do something about their crust. It was thick and hard to chew with a crispy bottom. I wouldn’t mind scooping the top and eat it just like that.

Schnitzel & Things on Smith St.
I can’t tell you how excited I am with Schnitzel & Things. I do think there are just too many trucks serving sweets and tacos. Don’t get me wrong, I love those trucks but I need me some varieties. Yes, there are the Cravings truck and the burger truck but they are no where near me at any time of the day nor week. And yes I can just go to Chinatown and get a chicken thigh over rice or well….pretty much anywhere for a burger but serving nice schnitzel from a truck now thats something.
Come on! Deep fried meat who doesn’t want some?
