Continuing my story about taking my friend, Virginia, to eat in NYC. I REALLY wanted her to try Big Gay Ice Cream truck but the first night we hung out, we got to Union Square after 8pm. By then the truck was already gone. The next day I decided that we should get ice cream first THEN dinner. Smart move I know. Also the night before I had received a tweet from the ice cream man himself that there will be banana cocoa puree as a topping, one of my favorite topping. He rarely has this. Few weeks earlier he had told me that he’s actually not a big fan of bananas. Why?! Bananas are great!

After eating at Sheep Station, my friends Jess and Garrett recommended that we get a slice of pie at Four and Twenty Blackbirds. They both raved about it, particularly about the salted caramel apple pie. To our dismay we found the shop closed, and we continued on our way. I mentioned it to Donny, and we decided to go there one day. A few days later I was at Prospect Park when I got a text message from Donny: “Pie at black birds?” By the time I got there, though, one of the servers was crossing out the flavors of pie that were no longer available. In fact she was crossing out ALL of the pies, including “and more’ except one: buttermilk chess pie.

HA so after my lunch of cod schnitzel and dinner at the always popular Shake Shack at Madison Square Park, I REALLY wanted some desserts. If you live in New York City I’m pretty sure you know about the Dessert Truck and how they couldn’t renew their permit so instead opened a store in the Lower East Side. I still have yet been to the store but LUCKILY they got a seasonal permit this summer and the truck is back! It was surprisingly not too hot that night so I walked from the Flatiron District to the East Village where the truck was parked in their old spot.
I walked up to the truck and looked at the menu. They had the same stuff from the shop and well there wasn’t anything that jumped out at me BUT the guy in the truck had already dropped his dinner, wiped his lips and was ready to take my order. What I really wanted was something cold and creamy like the strawberry angel food cake with thyme whipped creme I had last year. Anyways I ended up getting the warm brioche donut holes, 3 for $6. Hmmm soft round balls covered in sugar and filled with nutella. Most of the time I’m a BIG fan of nutella but for some reason I thought there was just a bit too much nutella in these donut holes. I think nutella is at its best when paired with whipped cream or something to make it less dry. Right? Anyone?

Are there actually good places to eat near and around Wall St? I just imagine the area mostly occupied by boring delis, pizza joints, generic Chinese take-out places and few high-end spots. So when my friend and his gf suggested we go to Crepe du Nord for dinner in Wall St I was like hm…….Wall St eh? Sure why not.

When I saw that Doug from Big Gay Ice Cream had bought a bottle of blod orange infused balsamic vinegar I was intrigued. So I made my way down to the truck in Union Square and tried it. IT WAS CRAZY AMAZINGLY GOOD!!! I was informed by “somebody” that there may be fig infused balsamic vinegar in the future.

I have come to believe that someone out there has cursed me! Cursed me into forever craving for any desserts with bananas. Cravings usually come and go but for whatever reasons my craving for anything bananas hasn’t gone away, its been like a month now! At first I wanted banana cream pie then it was banana split then my craving turned towards banana pudding. Lucky for me it was easier to find banana pudding than banana cream pie in this city. Googling “banana pudding nyc” I found myself at Serious Eats, of course. And thanks to Serious Eats I knew exactly where to go.
