Recently friends Jeff & Eva suggested meeting up for dinner to celebrate Jeff’s birthday, albeit a few weeks after the fact. They recommended Osteria Morini, though at the last minute we weren’t able to get a reservation until 10:15pm. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I was; at 10:30 (and later) on a Saturday night the place was packed, loud, and Eva even spotted Michael White in the kitchen. More importantly, the food was quite good for a place that seemed like such a scene.

So when the news broke that M.Wells in Long Island City was closing due to their landlord raising the rent, the entire blogging community decided to eat at M.Wells all at once. Obviously I’m guilty of that. I’ve actually been meaning to go but something else always came up.
Well anyways, I finally made it and I don’t know. I have friends that LOVE M.Wells and I have heard crappy things about M.Wells. After eating there I definitely think that it is overhyped BUT not by much. There were couple things that were okay but then there were couple things that were OH.SO.GOOD.

It’s become a tradition when my sister is in town that my entire family goes out for “fancy dinner” together. In the past we’ve gone to Babbo and Felidia, to name a few. As the resident New Yorker and food blogger, it usually falls to me to pick the restaurant. A few months ago my mom had sent me an article from a magazine about Dovetail, an upscale restaurant on the Upper West Side that participates in the Meatless Monday movement. I thought it looked interesting and filed the information away for later use. When my sister, who is also a vegetarian, came into town last week, the first idea I had for our family dinner was Dovetail.

8 years in NYC and only my 3rd trip to Jackson Heights. There’s just no good/easy way to get to Jackson Heights from Brooklyn. Though that’s probably what is keeping Jackson Heights such a great food destination. In some ways it doesn’t feel like we’re in New York.
My friend had told me about Urubamba, a Peruvian restaurant, many times and how she and her friends would order these platters of seafood, fried and ceviche. So when we decided to meet up in Jackson Heights, I wanted to check this place out.

Peach season is relatively short here in NYC, so I like to take advantage when I can. Donut peaches, sometimes called Saturn peaches, don’t taste much different than their round cousins, but because of their unique shape they tend to cost about twice as much. Get them if you must, if you want to turn a plate of fruit into a conversation piece, but I’ll stick with the regular peaches.

Whenever I’m in Chinatown and walk by Mee Sum Cafe, I always tell myself “one of these days.” But they close rather early so I have never been able to go. Also I have never had the feeling of rushing to try this place. Even after having ate lunch there, Mee Sum Cafe isn’t a place that you would consciously decide to go. The food was okay, the decor a bit old timey and the ladies behind the counter weren’t the most happy bunch. But you know what? I kind of like it just the way it is.

Our good friends at Steve’s Ice Cream are hosting a “Pint Mash Up” over at 61 Local this coming Saturday (8/13) and all of you are invited. Check out below for the details. Howard and I both had a taste of the Brooklyn Blackout and it was awesome. And I’m way curious about the Beer Pretzel Caramel since I’m big fan of Sixpoint and Liddabit Sweets.
