Q: When do heirloom tomatoes cost a mere $2/pound?
A: When it’s January and it’s 15 degrees out, of course!
Not many produce vendors were able to make it to the Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket today. Maybe it’s the freezing cold, or the snow (or both), but there was not a single green vegetable to be found. So it was kind of a shock to see the bright colors of these heirloom tomatoes from Bradley Farm, frozen though they may have been. It’s a good opportunity to use heirlooms in ways you wouldn’t normally; in fact, the only way I wouldn’t recommend eating them is raw. Heirloom tomato sauce, anyone?
